Select by Material — Shark Range

The Shark range is built for CNC and machine tapping, colour-coded to the workpiece material with the coating and edge prep matched to how that metal cuts. Pick your material and the tap is already optimised for it.

Red Shark Alloy steel

CNC / machine

High-performance CNC tapping in alloy steels. TiAlN top coat, material-specific edge prep, HSS-E PM.

Straight Flute

Hand & machine

The classic hand-tap geometry, also machine-usable. Bright HSS in taper (NO1), plug (NO2) and semi-bottoming (NO3) chamfers; sets (NO6) include all three.

Spiral Point

CNC / machine

Through-hole machine tapping. "Gun" taps push chips ahead of the cut — strong and fast. HSS-E PM, ANSI, bright or steam oxide.

Spiral Flute

CNC / machine

Blind-hole machine tapping. Flutes pull chips back out of the hole. HSS-E PM, ANSI, bright or steam oxide.

Multi-Application

CNC / machine

One tap across many materials. TiCN coated, three-radii flute profile, modified edge prep. HSS-E PM, DIN/ANSI.

Shark Form

CNC / machine

Chipless forming taps for CNC. Advanced lobe geometry and oil grooves cold-form a stronger thread, no chips to clear. TiN coated, HSS-E, DIN/ANSI.

Quick Reference

Which geometry?

Through hole Spiral point. Chips clear ahead of the tap, out the bottom.
Blind hole Spiral flute. Chips pull back up and out the top.
General / hand Straight flute. Versatile across most short-chipping work.
Ductile metal,
max strength
Shark Form. Forms the thread cold — no chips at all.

Chamfer lengths

NO1 Taper. 7–10 thread lead-in. Easiest start, best for hand tapping and tough materials.
NO2 Plug. 3–5 thread lead-in. The general-purpose all-rounder.
NO3 Bottoming. 1.5–2 thread lead-in. Threads close to the bottom of a blind hole.

Can't find the thread?

If it's in the Dormer Pramet range, we can get it. Tell us the size, pitch and material and we'll source the right tap and confirm lead time.
